SpiceJet signs 30 aircraft deal with Boeing

MUMBAI - Low-cost carrier SpiceJet Saturday signed an agreement with US aircraft manufacturer Boeing for buying 30, B737-800 commercial aircraft, worth $2.7 billion.

SpiceJet Director Bhulo Kansagra and Boeing’s Christopher Chadwick signed the deal here.

According to an airline official, the purchase will allow the air carrier to expand its domestic as well as its new international routes.

The agreement is one of the 20 deals involving an investment of $10 billion that US President Obama would seal during his four-day visit to India.

SpiceJet currently operates 22 Boeing aircraft. It is waiting for the delivery of several 737 aircraft from earlier agreements.
