KOZHIKODE - Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac Saturday said state government employees can look forward to a revised salary structure from April next year.

The state-appointed committee considering the new pay-scales is expected to submit its report by the first week of December.

“In January next year, the accountant general will look into the report. By the end of February, we expect to announce the new scales, which would be paid out from April,” Isaac said at a seminar organised by Union, an NGO backed by the Communist Party of India-Marxist here.

The salary would be revised retrospectively from July 1, 2009.

Kerala has an estimated half a million government employees.

With the assembly elections likely to be held before May next year, this would be a sop from the ruling Left government, which has been consistently putting up a poor performance in the various elections.
