Surat-Paradip Gas pipeline to cover four Chhattisgarh districts

RAIPUR - The 1,500-km proposed Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) pipeline from Gujarat’s Surat city to Orissa’s port city Paradip would pass through four districts of Chhattisgarh, a state government statement said Saturday.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) plans to begin the construction work soon with a target to complete the Rs.6,000 crore-project by 2014, the statement said, quoting details of a presentation made by PNGRB chairman L. Mansingh to Chief Minister Raman Singh here recently.

Mansingh said 150 km of the total 1,500-km pipeline project will pass through Rajnandgaon, Durg, Raipur and Mahasamund districts.

With the commissioning of the pipeline by 2014, the LPG could be supplied directly through pipeline to households in several key cities of the four districts including state capital Raipur where domestic consumers now wait for weeks to get LPG cylinders.

The Chhattisgarh government has advised PNGRB officials to give a thought of devising a plan to bring several other districts and towns under the ambitious gas pipeline project.
