Canada showcasing mining expertise in India next month

TORONTO - Canada, which is considered the ‘mining guru’ of the world, will showcase its expertise in this field next month in New Delhi.

Top Canadian mining equipment maker Cubex will organise a two-day workshop ‘Knowledge beyond knowlegde in the mining arena’ in the Indian capital Dec 2-3.

“This is the first of its kind workshop being held India in the mining sector. We are collaborating with our global partner Sandvik Asia (from Sweden) to bring Indian mining technologists up to date with the latest developments in this field,” says Cubex director (west Asia) Hemant Shah.

Winnipeg-based Shah said his group is bringing top Canadian mining experts to India to have exchanges with about 60 experts from various Indian companies.

“We have been in India for some time now and it is payback time for us. We are organizing the workshop as part of our corporate social responsibility,” the Cubex director said.

With India set embark on a new mining policy, Shah said the Canadian initiative is aimed at sharing “our A-Z knowledge” with Indians in mining development - drilling to air ventilation, mine safety to air supply to mining environment.

Indian mining majors, including Hindustan Copper, Hindustan Zinc, Tata Steel, NMDC, Hutti Gold Mines, and India-based Canadian Adi Gold Mining Pvt Ltd will attend the workshop.

John Martin, vice president of Sandvik (West Asia) said, “Sandvik is very pleased to be associated with this workshop as an organiser and sponsor. This forum is an extension of Sandvik’s philosophy of sustainable development and integration of business operations with core values.”

He said the workshop will help participants in understanding technical proficiency in the underground mining business.

“We also would like to thank the faculty who have come from all over the globe with the best technical papers on underground mining. I also express gratitude towards our Global Alliance partner Cubex and the government of Canada for the support extended.”

The Canadian initiative to help India in the mining sector comes just months after India and Canada signed a memorandum of understanding on mining during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit here for the G-20 summit in June.
