Maruti Suzuki’s December sales rise 39.7 percent

NEW DELHI - Automobile major Maruti Suzuki sold 99,225 units in December 2010 against 71,000 units in the like period of 2009, registering a 39.7 percent increase in its sales, a company release said.

In December 2010, sales were up 23.5 percent in A2 and 19.4 percent in A3 segment. In C segment, the company recorded a growth of 67.4 percent, the company said in a regulatory filing.

According to the statement, the sales were affected as production was closed for its bi-annual maintenance shutdown for six days during December.

Segment wise, the company’s A2 compact cars like Alto, Wagon-R, Estilo, Swift, A-Star and Ritz saw a 23.5 percent rise in sales which stood at 64,492 units against 52,236 units in the like period of 2009.

The company’s A3 sedan segment cars like SX4 and Dzire’s sales grew by 19.4 percent. The sales stood at 9,362 units as against 7,843 units in December 2009.
