NEW DELHI - Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Tuesday said onion prices would come down further as the government has taken the necessary steps to improve supply.

“I do hope that improvement and moderation will take place soon,” Mukherjee told reporters on the sidelines of a conference organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

“We have taken necessary steps by putting a ban on exports and also reducing the import duty to zero level,” he said.

Currently, onion prices have moderated to Rs.40-50 per kg, after soaring to Rs.80 per kg recently.
