Sensex gives up opening gains

MUMBAI - A key Indian equities index started weak Tuesday, giving up its opening gains.

The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened at 19,279.77 points and was ruling at 19,262.13 points, up 38 points or 0.2 percent from its previous close at 19,224.12 points.

It had moved up to 19,431.56 soon after opening bell.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was at 5,774 points, a gain of 0.19 percent.

Broader market indices were, however, in the red, with the BSE madcap index ruling 0.6 percent down and the BSE small cap index ruling 0.42 percent lower.
