Industrialist Sivasailam dead

CHENNAI - A. Sivasailam, chairman of the Rs.7,000 crore diversified industrial group Amalgamations, passed away Wednesday at Sringeri in Karanataka. He was 76.
According to group officials, Sivasailam had gone to Sringeri where he fell ill and died. His body is being brought back to Chennai.
Born on Aug 24, 1934, Sivasailam is the elder son of late S. Anantharamakrishnan who founded the group that now has interests in tractors, automotive batteries, diesel engines, auto components, cutting tools, tea plantations and books retailing.
After graduating in Commerce from the Loyola College here, Sivasailam got trained in management and advanced accountancy in London.
In January 1961, he was appointed as the general manager of tractor major Tractors and Farm Equipment Ltd (TAFE) and seven years later he became the group chairman.
He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2007 and was conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Literature by the Madurai Kamaraj University and lifetime contribution award by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers in 2008.
He is survived by his two daughters Mallika Srinivasan and Jayshree Venkatraman. Both are directors at TAFE.
