TOKYO - Japanese stocks rose in Tuesday morning trading as investor sentiment were boosted by overnight gains on the US and European markets.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 97.5 points, or 0.94 percent, to trade at 10,442.61 while the broader Topix index was up 11.34 points, or 1.24 percent, at 928.52.
Despite the yen’s slight rise against the dollar, hovering around the mid 82-yen range, exporters such as the precision machinery and electronics sectors were buoyed by an overnight rally on the technology-heavy US Nasdaq Composite Index, which jumped 1.04 percent.
On currency markets at 9 a.m. (0000 GMT), the dollar traded at 82.54-56 yen, down from Monday’s 5 p.m. quote of 82.83-84 yen.
The euro traded at 1.3642-3646 dollars, up from 1.3584-3586 dollars Monday, and at 112.61-64 yen, up from 112.52-56 yen.
