SINGUR - Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday asked the West Bengal government to hand over 600 acres of land in Singur for relocating a proposed wagon factory which is facing anti-land acquisition protests in Howrah district's Sankrail area.

SINGUR - Mahadeb Das' 12-bigha (4.8-acre) land, which fell within the plot earmarked for the Tata Motors small car project here, was acquired by the state's Left Front government in 2006.

SINGUR - A day after Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) declined the West Bengal government's proposal for a power plant on the land abandoned by the Tata Motors in Singur, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee Sunday renewed her offer for a rail coach factory in a joint venture there.

SINGUR - Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee Sunday laid the foundation stone for the railway's first perishable cargo centre to benefit farmers in this West Bengal's Hooghly district belt, where she had led a successful peasant agitation against the Tatas' small car project.

SINGUR - To help pilgrims attend the annual religious fair Gangasagar Mela, the railway ministry has decided to run two special trains in January connecting Delhi and Namkhana, a station close to the venue.
