Hawaii foreclosures up 122 percent in November
HONOLULU — A real estate research firm counted 875 foreclosure-related filings throughout Hawaii in November.
Foreclosure listing firm RealtyTrac said Thursday that the figure represented a 122 percent increase over the number of filings recorded in the state in November 2008.
Last month, Hawaii had a foreclosure rate of one in 581 households. Nationally, the rate was one per 417 households.
There were 370 foreclosures on Oahu last month, or one per 905 households. Foreclosures on the neighbor islands rose more rapidly.
Maui had the worst isle foreclosure problem last month, with some 197 Maui homeowners, or one per every 330 households, in foreclosure last month.
The Big Island followed with one per every 341 households. On Kauai, there was one for every 379 households.
