NEW YORK — The following stocks were among those that moved substantially or traded heavily Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq Stock Market:
NYSE:
Brinker International Inc., up $1.95 at $17.26
The owner of Chili’s Grill & Bar reported a better-than-expected profit for the fiscal second quarter despite sliding sales.
Verso Paper Corp., down 26 cents at $3.68
A Credit Suisse analyst lowered his rating on the paper maker to “Neutral” from “Outperform” following recent gains in its stock price.
New York Times Co., down 39 cents at $13.31
The Times will charge readers for full access to its Web site starting in 2011, a risky move aimed at drawing more revenue online.
Coach Inc., down $2.10 at $35.35
The luxury handbag maker said better business in North American stores during the holidays helped lift its second-quarter profit.
Kraft Foods Inc., down 63 cents at $28.78
Fitch downgraded its rating on Kraft following its $19.4 billion acquisition of British candy maker Cadbury PLC.
CSX Corp., down $3.16 at $47.35
The CEO of CSX predicts a slow economic recovery this year, while warning that weak coal demand could undermine the company’s earnings.
NASDAQ:
Rambus Inc., up $3.37 at $24.50
The company settled all claims with South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co. and reached a licensing agreement that covers Rambus patents.
Cree Inc., up $9.38 at $63.59
The maker of LED lightbulbs and lamps said profit more than tripled in the second quarter on robust sales growth.
