Ky. jobless rate grows to 10.7 percent in December
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky is reporting another jump in unemployment despite growth in seven of 11 job sectors.
The Office of Employment and Training said Thursday the jobless rate rose to 10.7 percent in December, up from 10.6 percent in November.
The agency reported that the professional and business sector added 4,900 jobs in December. And the government sector added another 700.
The financial sector, mining and logging sector, education and health services sector, information sector and services sector all added jobs.
But heavy job losses in the leisure and hospital sector, the construction sector, the manufacturing sector and the trade, transportation and utilities sector offset the gains. The largest job losses were in leisure and hospital, which was down 4,700 in December.
