Subir Raha Dies of Cancer

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com) — Former ONGC chairman Subir Raha has passed away, according to NDTV TV news channel report. Subir Raha was diagnosed with lung cancer last year and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital. He was 62.
Mr. Raha had served as chairman & managing director of ONGC for five years from May 25, 2001 to 2006. He was a workaholic, who ran ONGC not like a government company, but as a competitive private company.
Raha was the pioneer for turning an almost sick ONGC into most valuable PSU. During his tenure ONGC saw a huge market profit, increased by 10 times to reach 200,000 crore. Surprisingly, Raha was denied an extension as ONGC’s boss (in 2006).
Raha took initiatives to acquire Mangalore Refinery (MRPL). He was keen to improve oversees business. The company (ONGC) lose its prestigious position after his tenure.
Raha worked with Hinduja Group for a brief period before floating Team Raha Ideation - an India-based consulting firm focused on strategic advisory services.
