RAIPUR - The Gross State Domestic Produce (GSDP) of Chhattisgarh is projected to go up by 110 percent in 2020 to Rs.102,19,292 crore from Rs.48,55,112 crore in 2008-09 fiscal, according to a vision paper released here Wednesday by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham).

The paper said the major contributor to the GSDP would be industrial and services sector, which respectively contributed Rs.19,89,023 crore and Rs.19,11,811 crore to the state’s GDP in 2008-09.

Releasing the paper, Assocham secretary general D.S. Rawat said, “The key growth sectors in the state will remain industry, services and agriculture with their prospects brightening in the next decade or so”.

According to the vision paper, these key growth sectors in the State can contribute towards the state GDP up to Rs.47,51,292 crore (industry), Rs.34,88,206 crore (services) and Rs.14,73,687 crore (agriculture) by 2020.

In order to achieve the projected GSDP by 2020, the Assocham has recommended a string of measures to strengthen Chhattisgarh’s industry, services and agriculture.

On industrial front, the chamber has called for “integrated approach to help small and medium enterprises (SME) sector by facilitating easy funding or financing, efficient technology, high quality standards, extensive marketing network”.

The paper suggested that the state should also encourage such low investment SMEs as food processing, which involve generating more jobs and purchasing power in rural areas.

“Since the production of paddy and maize is very high in Chhattisgarh, state government should invite the private players for food processing units in the state and provide them the subsidy and incentives for seasonal employment generation and also introduce the new technology for the farming of cash crops,” the Assocham paper stated.
