GURGAON - Software exports from Haryana were to the tune of Rs.21,000 crore (Rs. 210 billion/$4.5 billion) in 2008-09, a rise of about 17 percent against last year’s figure of Rs 18,500 crore (Rs.185 billion/$3.95 billion), despite recession in the developed world.
Gurgaon has contributed the most to the output of the Information Technology and Information Technology Enabled Services (IT &ITES) industry in the state as more than 90 percent of the units are located there.
“This year (2009-10) also the Nasscom-Mckinsey report has projected a growth of 11-12 percent in IT &ITES exports. The exact figures are expected by June,” said Rajendra Kataria, Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon.
Gurgaon is fast emerging as an IT hub and there are about 400 IT and ITES companies operating in the district. The state government has opened a regional industry promotion office there to give a boost to the IT industry.
Authorities are expecting the construction of the Qutub Minar-Gurgaon Metro Corridor would help IT & ITES companies in Gurgaon.
