CHENNAI - Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin Sunday invited the global electronic product manufacturers who have set up their factories in the state to bring their ancillary units too.

“While Chennai has now become a major manufacturing hub for electronic hardware, as a country we are still heavily dependent on import of electronic components. I understand this import content is as high as 75 percent to 85 percent,” Stalin said, inaugurating the Sanmina-SCI’s facility at Oragadam near here.

Citing the domestic automobile industry where the localisation levels are around 85 percent, he said: “Our government is keen to trigger a similar growth of electronic component manufacturing projects in Tamil Nadu. I would like to take this occasion to invite electronic component manufacturers to invest in Tamil Nadu.”

He requested the electronics manufacturing services (EMS) company Sanmina to set up a printed circuit board facility in the state.

Stalin said: “As far as India is concerned, there is a huge gap between demand and supply for electronic hardware which will widen further, providing massive opportunity in electronic hardware manufacturing.”

One of top five EMS companies in the world, Sanmina has invested Rs.225 crore in its Indian facility.

According to Sanmina officials, the plant can manufacture products worth Rs.400-500 million annually and it is scheduled to grow further.
