RANCHI - Jharkhand Deputy Chief Minister Raghubar Das Saturday said that engineering giant Larsen & Toubro has shown interest in setting up a 4,000 MW thermal power plant in the state.

“Senior Larsen & Toubro company officials met me two days ago and expressed their interest to set up a 4,000 MW thermal power plant in Deoghar or Dumka district. I have asked the state energy secretary to look into the issue,” Das, who holds the energy portfolio, told reporters here.

He said that the sate government will do everything to make the state power surplus in the next five years. “Our aim is also to make the state a power hub by 2014,” he said.

About the memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed in the past with different companies to set up power plants, Das said these were being reviewed. “The state governments is ready to work with serious players to improve power scenario of the state,” he said.

Das blamed Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) for the state’s poor power scenario. “Jharkhand is not getting its share of power from DVC despite the fact that state has 33 percent stake in it,” he said.
