BHOPAL - The Madhya Pradesh government has urged the centre to accord mega power status to the 1,600 MW thermal power project in Khandwa, a joint venture between Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company.

“As per the amended power policy, BHEL has assured to accord mega power status to this joint venture. With this, the cost of the joint venture will come down by Rs.660-700 crore and consumers can be supplied power at reduced rates,” said state Energy Minister Rajendra Shukla, who met Heavy Industries Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in New Delhi Thursday.

According to an official statement, Shukla also urged Deshmukh to ask the BHEL management to accelerate the Singaji and Satpura thermal power projects.
