Gujarat’s power scheme bags award

GANDHINAGAR - Gujarat’s power scheme Jyotigram Yojna has bagged the ‘Innovation for India-2010′ award in the public services category, a government spokesperson said here Wednesday.

The Jyotigram Yojna, one of the pet projects of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, won the award for its novel idea, public utility and implementation.

The innovative scheme makes 24-hour three=phase power supply available to all the existing 18,000 electrified villages at an average expenditure per village of Rs.6.72 lakh.

Total expenditure of the scheme is Rs.1,290 crore, out of which, Rs.1,115 crore is grant from the state government.
