GANDHINAGAR - With a view to promote the use of clean, green and efficient fuel for small and medium households, commercial establishments and automobiles, the Gujarat government has asked Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd (GSPC) to undertake a city gas distribution project.

The project will be implemented through GSPC’s subsidiary, GSPC Gas Company Ltd.

“We are today India’s fastest growing city gas distribution company providing natural gas to domestic, industrial, commercial and transportation segments,” a spokesperson for the company said here Tuesday.

According to him, the role of GSPC Gas is envisioned to be complementary to Gujarat State Petronet Ltd. (GSPL) grid of approximately 1,500 km spread across the state. The GSPC gas retail network, starting every location where the GSPL network ends, has resulted in a strong synergy in network management.

The spokesperson said that GSPC Gas has achieved two major milestones of 150,000 domestic customers as well as daily gas sale of 3.00 MMSCMD (million metric standard cubic metre per day) piped natural gas (PNG) as a safe, alternative and economical fuel.

“With daily gas sales volumes of 3.00 MMSCMD, at present GSPC Gas has a base of approximately 150,067 domestic households, 629 commercial establishments, and 820 industrial customers. GSPC Gas is also operating 70 CNG stations across Gujarat.”
