Gunny bags of wheat damaged in rain

GHAZIABAD - Hundreds of gunny bags full of wheat were damaged in the rain while being transported to a Food Corporation of India godown at Hapur near here, FCI sources said. A probe has been ordered into the incident.

The wheat was being unloaded at Hapur, 30 km from here, from goods trains coming from Punjab.

The sources said that 4.5 lakh gunny bags of wheat had been unloaded over one week from 13 goods trains and were lying in the open when it suddenly began to rain Monay, damaging a portion of the wheat. The loss is estimated at Rs.2.15 crore, the sources said.

District Magistrate Hridesh Kumar said: “An enquiry is being conducted, the guilty will be punished after the probe report is received.”
