Pakistan to allow goods from Afghanistan to India

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan and Afghanistan Sunday agreed on a transit trade deal, allowing Afghanistan access through air and through the Wagah border for trade with India.

However, Pakistan denied the Afghan request to let goods from India across Pakistani territory, saying this issue would be discussed in bilateral talks with India, Online news agency reported, citing sources.

Pakistan Commerce Minister Amin Fahim led his country’s delegation and Afghan Commerce Minister Anwarul Haq, his country’s team at the talks.

Pakistan maintained that the letters of credit for all the goods transported under the transit trade accord be opened in Kabul and licensed individuals be allowed to undertake the transit trade.

Under the agreement, Pakistan will, in return, have trade access to Central Asian countries.
