Michigan voters search for economic savior
LANSING, Mich. — Michigan voters frustrated over lost jobs and home foreclosures will be looking for one thing when they go to the polls in Tuesday’s primary election: leaders who can move the state out of its economic morass.
The seven candidates for governor have been debating would be best at creating jobs. All say they would cut business taxes to attract employers. Most of the five Republicans also say they would reduce state regulations.
One Democrat, Virg Bernero, has been promising to fight for the middle class during visits to factories. His opponent, Andy Dillon, vows to bring in alternative energy jobs.
With similar campaign promises, many of the candidates are emphasizing their business or work credentials to show their competence to manage the economy.
