UNITED NATIONS - Afghanistan has topped a list of countries with the highest food insecurity, a British agency working with the UN has said.

Afghanistan is followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi, the report by Britain’s Maplecroft research agency said.

The agency carried out the study on 163 countries with criteria designed by the World Food Programme (WFP), Xinhua reported.

Countries like Eritrea, Sudan, Ethiopia, Angola, Liberia, Chad and Zimbabwe make the top 10 of the list.

Other countries at risk include Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and the Philippines.

In 2009, Angola was the top-ranked country in the food insecurity list.
