Glass research institute plans JV with US firm

KOLKATA - The Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI), a national laboratory under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, plans to form a joint venture with a US-based company for specialised optic fibre cable fabrication unit in West Bengal.
“A 50:50 joint venture will happen with CGCRI at Kalyani in West Bengal for R&D,” Science and Technology Minister Prithviraj Chavan said here Saturday, speaking at the diamond jubilee celebration of the research body.
He, however, declined to divulge any further details.
The CGCRI would be technology collaborator in the joint-venture project. The project is likely to entail an investment in excess of Rs.100 crore.
Indranil Manna, the director of CGCRI, said land for the unit is yet to be finalised at Kalyani in Nadia district in the state.
