Balmer Lawrie plans four multi-modal logistics hub

KOLKATA - State-owned diversified conglomerate Balmer Lawrie is planning to set up four multi-modal logistics hub in the country in four zones — east, west, north and south, a top official said here.
“We are planning to set up a multi-modal logistics hub in Vizag (Vishakhapatnam) and eventually in other parts of the country. We have signed a memorandum of understanding with Vizag Port Trust for this,” company’s managing director S.K. Mukherjee said Saturday.
He said each hub would cost around Rs.250 crore, depending on the value of the land.
Regarding the Vizag project, Mukherjee said: “Now we are working on the feasibility — both technical and financial — of the project. Location will be finalised within five to six weeks.”
Around 60 acres of land would be required for the Vizag project. The MoU was signed four months back.
He said each multi-modal logistic hub would take two years to be completed from the day the construction work starts.

The company also plans to venture into green energy by installing wind power project in Tamil Nadu for captive use.
It plans to invest Rs.7 crore and would have a capacity of 1.2-1.3 megawatt, Mukherjee said.
