CHENNAI - Japanese car making company Nissan Motor India Tuesday announced shipment of 3,866 Micra cars to Europe through Ennore Port near here.

French auto maker Renault and Nissan joint venture Renault Nissan Automotive India has set up a 200,000 units per annum car plant at Orgadam near here to roll out small cars for the global market.

The plant is expected to manufacture both Nissan and Renault car models.

Nissan Motor aims to export over 110,000 units this fiscal.

“It is a defining moment for all of us at Nissan in India as we begin a new chapter of business through the start of exports. This milestone completes our vision of making the Chennai plant a strategic hub for both the domestic market as well as for exports,” said Kiminobu Tokuyama, the managing director and CEO, Nissan Motor India.

In 2008, Nissan Motor India had signed an MoU with Ennore Port Ltd (EPL) to export its vehicles to various countries.

As per the agreement, Ennore Port would provide special berth space for parking Nissan Motor’s vehicles. The berth is under construction and will begin operations shortly.

Meanwhile, in the domestic market Nissan Motor India has sold 3,293 units of Micra since its launch in July this year.

In September, the company sold 1,183 Micras, just one unit more than what it had sold in August this year.

The company claims an order book position of 4,500 units and a waiting period of two months for its new car.
