THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - Sashi Tharoor, former minister of state for external affairs and member of parliament from Thiruvananthapuram, will continue to make efforts to shift the Air India Express headquarters from Mumbai to the Kerala capital.

“Tomorrow (Thursday) we are having a crucial meeting to this effect when top officials of Air India Express arrive here. Then I will be meeting the chief of Air India in Delhi because it is high time that they move their base to Thiruvananthapuram,” Tharoor told reporters here Wednesday.

Air India Express, which operates more than 250 flights every week, touches the three international airports in the state.

“Air India Express gets a major chunk of its passengers from the state. With the hangar here is likely to open soon, it would be best if the headquarters move for all practical purpose,” added Tharoor.

The new terminal of the Thiruvananthapuram international airport is also ready to open.

He denied reports which said there was a move to shift the base to Kochi.

“To the best of my knowledge no such thing has happened,” said Tharoor.
