Sensex plummets in last hour to close 240 points lower (Second Lead)

MUMBAI - Indian equities markets Tuesday closed amid high volatility with a benchmark index ending almost 240 points lower.

The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 20,298.55 points, closed at 19,929.08 points (provisional), down 239.81 points or 1.19 percent from its previous close at 20,168.89 points.

It had moved up to an intra-day high to 20,332 points in early trade, while it touched the intra-day low at 19,923.96 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the 50-share S&P CNX Nifty ended at 6,011.1 points, down 1.07 percent.

Broader markets also gave up their gains. The BSE midcap index closed 0.06 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index ended 0.13 percent up.
