NEW DELHI - Men travelling in the women’s only coach on Delhi Metro will be fined Rs.200 from Tuesday, it was announced Sunday.

“A fine of Rs.200 for every violation can be imposed if any male passenger is found travelling in the reserved ladies coach,” a Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) spokesperson said.

The Metro will deploy mobile squads to ensure proper compliance.

From Oct 2, the Metro reserved the first coach exclusively for women. But men have been found sharing the space, particularly during rush hours.

Children up to 12 years accompanied by women passengers can travel in the reserved coach.

Metro’s mobile squads have collected Rs.16.41 lakh as fines from 8,195 passengers for defacing Metro property, drunkenness, causing nuisance and spitting between Nov 9, 2008 and Sep 30, 2010.
