Over nine percent growth in tourist arrivals in October

NEW DELHI - Foreign tourist arrivals in India increased by over nine percent in October this year over the corresponding month last year, the tourism ministry said Saturday.

The foreign tourist footfalls in October was 4.87 lakh as compared to 4.46 lakh during the same period last year, a growth of 9.2 percent, the ministry said in a statement.

In October 2008, the tourist inflow was 4.50 lakh.

Between January and October this year, 43.22 lakh tourists arrived in India, a growth of 9.9 percent. During the same period in 2009, 39.34 lakh tourists had arrived in the country.

During the Commonwealth Games this year, foreign tourist arrivals in Delhi had logged a growth of 5.1 percent over the corresponding period in 2009.
