15 million tonnes paddy procured in Punjab, Haryana

CHANDIGARH - After a bumper harvest, leading food grain producing states of Punjab and Haryana have procured over 15 million tonnes of paddy in 40 days of the procurement process, officials said here Wednesday.
In Punjab, government agencies and private millers procured over 12 million tonnes of paddy, officials said.
In neighbouring Haryana, nearly 3 million tonnes of paddy has arrived in grain markets so far.
Over 98.5 percent of the total paddy procurement in Punjab has been done by the government agencies through over 1,700 procurement centres. The rest has been purchased by private rice millers.
Punjab’s Ferozepur district was leading in procurement operations followed by Sangrur and Patiala, officials said.
In neighbouring Haryana, out of the total paddy arrival, nearly 2.25 million tonnes was procured by government agencies while the rest was purchased by private millers.
Haryana Food and Supplies Minister Mahender Partap Singh said Wednesday that Kurukshetra district was leading in paddy arrival followed by Karnal and Fatehabad districts.
