CHANDIGARH - Faced with a big backlog in supply of LPG cylinders in Punjab, Indian Oil Corporation, which supplies cylinders under the brand name Indane, has asked its distributors across the state to remain open even on Sundays and holidays to clear the backlog.
The move by Indane to clear the shortage in supply of LPG cylinders across Punjab has come following complaints from consumers that they were not getting gas cylinders for weeks.
Indian Oil spokesperson Chitrita Bose said Wednesday that Indane was taking all steps to clear the backlog.
The supply of Indian domestic LPG from Indian Oil will be stabilized within a week, with the corporation initiating a multi-pronged action plan to clear the backlog, Bose said in a statement here.
Indian Oil bottling plants in Nabha and Jalandhar in Punjab are operating on Sundays and holidays to cope with the additional demand generated by the festive season and peak demand season. There is overall increase in LPG demand, she said.
She added that the supply of LPG at bottling plants in Punjab was affected recently due to repair work at the Panipat refinery, through which gas is supplied to these plants.
Bose said that the present backlog would be cleared by Dec 5.
