ALLAHABAD - Guava production has gone up in Allahabad due to the timely arrival of winter.
The most famous variety of guavas in Allahabad is Surkha, which has deep pink flesh and is high in demand these days.
The fruit is sweet, strongly flavoured with few seeds, and is slightly depressed at both ends.
Ramesh Yadav, a guava orchard owner, said the good quality of soil is the reason for the unique-tasting high quality fruit.
“The specialty here is that as winters intensify, these guavas turn red, and they are very tasty and sweet in taste. Due to the good quality of soil, guava comes out round in shape which looks good and its taste is also very good,” said Yadav.
“Farmers brought guava in this market and their sales are very good. The production of red guavas is also very good this year. Customers like red guava,” said Ram Singh, a wholesaler dealer of guavas.
Guava farmers earn profits of approximately 300-400 rupees per day. By Virendra Pathak (ANI)
