Sagardighi thermal plant to come up by 2015

KOLKATA - The construction work for the 1,000-MW thermal power plant at Sagardighi in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district will be completed within 2015, an official said Friday.
“The construction work for the 1,000-MW power plant at Sagardighi will commence after two months and it will be over after four years,” state’s Principal Secretary (Power) Malay Kumar De said on the sidelines of an interactive session on National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency, organised by industry lobby, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here.
A 250-MW unit will be operational in Santaldih thermal power station of the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd (WBPDCL) next month, he said.
De said construction work for the 250-MW thermal power plant, to be built by the Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) Ltd, in Haldia in East Midnapore district would be done in three years.
“We are going through a severe power crisis. The way the economy is growing it will need a good level of energy. Demand for energy will increase,” he said, adding a higher level of energy efficiency would lead to lower production cost.
