Kolkata experiences massive power cuts

KOLKATA - Parts of Kolkata experienced major power cuts Monday giving a tough time to thousands of students preparing for their final examinations.

The power failure were attributed to technical snags at two generating units at Titagarh and Sagardighi in the state.

“Two power generating units one each at Sagardighi and Titagarh faced technical problems due to which there were power cuts in few portions of the city. The problem will be sorted out very soon,” G.D.Gautama, principal secretary (power), West Bengal government,

told IANS.

West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited’s Sagardighi Thermal power unit in Murshidabad district generates 300mw unit of power and the CESC Ltd’s Titagargh power generating unit North 24 Parganas district generates 240 mw unit of power.

“There has been a technical problem at Titagagh power generating unit but the problem has been sorted out,” said a CESC spokesperson.

People, especially students had a harrowing time during the day, the last day of the West Bengal Secondary Examinations (Madhyamik).
