CHENNAI - With real estate developers planning to build skyscrapers in major cities, ready mix concrete equipment maker Schwing Stetter (India) Pvt Ltd Monday said it will launch two high capacity concrete pumps to cash in on the trend.

“We will be launching two new concrete pumps - one that can pump concrete vertically upto 500 metres (SP 8800) and the other 250 metres (SP 2880). In Mumbai alone, there are around 36 high rise construction projects coming up. All of them will be more than 230 metres tall,” the firm’s managing director Anand Sundaresan told reporters here Monday.

The Rs.900 crore wholly-owned Indian subsidiary of the $1.3 billion German major Schwing Stetter started production of concrete pumps, transit mixers and batching plants at its facility here in 2001.

According to its chief operating Officer V.G. Sakthikumar, the company hoped to sell three SP 8800 concrete pumps, costing Rs.1.5 crore each, this calendar year, and increase it to ten in 2012.

“Many of the high rise projects have just started and the builders need not have such pumps now. They will be using lower capacity pumps and as the building grows taller the need for high capacity pumps arises,” Sundaresan said.

“Last year we sold 1,000 pumps, 3,000 transit mixers and 650 batching plants,” he added.
