National e-governance meet begins Thursday in Maharashtra

NEW DELHI - The 14th National Conference on e-Governance begins in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad city Thursday to deliberate on improving public services through communication technology in rural India.
The two-day event, to be inaugurated by Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan, will discuss providing information and communication technology solutions to improve the delivery and accessibility of e-services in rural India, a statement from union home ministry said here.
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office and Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V. Narayanasamy, and other dignitaries are expected to attend the inaugural session.
The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Rural e-Service Delivery Status and Challenges’.
The annual conference acts as a reality check to ascertain the outcome of the services rendered by the government and whether it has achieved the intended objectives of transparent, effective, responsive and accountable governance.
In the inaugural session, national awards for e-governance for 2010-11 will also be presented.
These awards are given to recognise and promote excellence in implementation of e-governance initiatives.
