LONDON - World markets fell sharply Friday following a huge sell-off on Wall Street and amid fears that Europe's debt crisis could spread and derail the global economic recovery.

BRUSSELS - The 16 leaders of the euro zone meet in Brussels Friday to finalize the Greek rescue plan and assess how such financial crises can be avoided in the future.

The Dow Jones industrial average had one of the most turbulent trading days in its history and suffered its biggest intraday loss.
