NEW ORLEANS - The American who will take over as head of British oil giant BP says he's not underestimating the nature and complexity of what the company must do to restore its reputation and financial strength after the massive Gulf spill.

NEW ORLEANS - The American picked to lead oil giant BP as it struggles to restore its finances and oil spill-stained reputation pledged Tuesday that his company will remain committed to the Gulf region even after the busted well is sealed.

NEW YORK - Stocks traded in a tight range Tuesday as investors again try to balance conflicting economic and earnings reports to determine the pace of a global recovery.

LONDON - World stock markets mostly rose Tuesday as investors warmed to another batch of better than expected earnings and economic data, while the euro struck a 2 1/2-month high against the dollar before its latest effort to sustain a break above $1.30 faltered.

NEW YORK - Stocks extended their rally into a fourth day on Tuesday as economic and earnings reports lifted investors' optimism about the global recovery.
