UNLV professor, economist Keith Schwer dead at 66
LAS VEGAS — The University of Nevada, Las Vegas says a professor and economist long recognized as an expert on Las Vegas-area business trends has died.
A statement released Thursday said Raymond K. “Keith” Schwer died Tuesday at age 66 after an unspecified illness.
UNLV President Neal Smatresk called Schwer a mainstay of economic analysis for years in southern Nevada.
Schwer joined the UNLV faculty in July 1986, and became an authority on the region’s business and economy.
He earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Maryland in 1975. He was also involved in business and economics programs at institutions in Oklahoma, Tennessee, Vermont and Wyoming.
Schwer is survived by his wife, Kaye, and three children. Funeral plans were pending.
