SHIMLA - S Tel, a mobile and Internet access services provider, Thursday launched its GSM mobile services in the country from the Himachal Pradesh capital, a company official said.

S Tel director P. Swaminathan told reporters here: “From this town we have launched the company’s GSM-based services in the country. With the number of mobile users expected to double by 2015, we are now entering another exciting phase in telecom growth. The six circles that the company is entering in is where the next wave of growth lies.”

To attract the customers, the company announced two tariff plans — 1 paisa per second and 50 paise per minute both for STD and local outgoing calls.

S Tel, a Chennai-based company which has unified access services licence and spectrum to operate in Bihar, Orissa, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, the North-East and Assam, is a joint venture between Siva Group and BMIC Ltd, a subsidiary of Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco).
