Crist seeks ‘pro-life’ label in Fla. Senate race

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Gov. Charlie Crist is saying he’ll fight for “pro-life” legislation if he’s elected to the U.S. Senate.

Crist opposed changes to abortion laws during his run for governor, saying four years ago he wanted to change hearts, not laws.

His campaign said Friday the “pro-life” legislation that Crist would support includes seeking federal tax credits for families who adopt. The campaign wouldn’t say if he’d seek abortion restrictions.

The federal government already offers a tax credit for adoptions.

Crist is a populist governor and moderate Republican who is describing himself as a solid conservative now that is he’s lost significant ground to former House Speaker Marco Rubio in the Republican primary.
