Ariz. jobless rate remains at 9.2 percent in Jan.
PHOENIX — State officials report that Arizona’s unemployment rate remained at 9.2 percent in January although there were 50,500 fewer jobs than the month before.
The Commerce Department said Thursday that the sector losing the most jobs in January was professional and business services, shedding 13,100 jobs. The trade, transportation and utilities sector lost 10,500 jobs.
Assistant Director Frank Curtis says the 9.2 percent unemployment rate means it’s still difficult to find a job.
The department says January’s loss of 126,100 jobs from a year earlier was the fifth straight month of slowing of the rate of year-over-year job losses.
Work force analyst Rick Van Sickle says that means Arizona’s economy remains under water but is headed back to the surface.
