SBI ventures into green power

KOLKATA - Public sector bank State Bank of India has ventured into green power with an aim to become energy neutral over a period of time, a statement released here said Thursday.
In the first phase, it has decided to install 10 wind mills in the three states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, to wheel power generated to high tension (HT) power consumption points at the bank’s specified offices or branches in these states.
The whole process of consulting, regulatory clearance, tendering, awarding of the contract to set up the wind mill project has been completed within a record period of four months.
Suzlon Energy Ltd., the winner in the bidding process, has partnered with the bank in this initiative.
In the second phase, based on its experience, the bank proposes to install more wind mills in the near future.
