DHAKA - The Bangladesh cabinet Monday assigned two ministers and a senior official the task of scrutinising a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that would enable import of electricity from India.

Finance Minister A.M.A. Muhith, Planning Minister A.K. Khandker and the prime minister’s finance affairs adviser Mashiur Rahman were asked to submit the report in this regard soon, Star Online reported.

The government would ratify the MoU after getting the report, prime minister’s press secretary Abul Kalam Azad told media.

Hasina last week announced that her government will import 500 MW of power from India.

Energy-starved Bangladesh is also seeking power from Bhutan.
