LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles councilman pushing for an economic boycott of Arizona says the nation’s second-largest city must take action to protest Arizona’s tough new anti-illegal immigration law, which critics say will lead to racial profiling.

City policy analyst Gerry Miller says Los Angeles has $56 million in Arizona-related investments. He recommends suspending travel to the state, avoiding new contracts and reviewing current ones for possible termination.

Councilman Ed Reyes told KNX news radio Wednesday the Arizona law is discriminatory and “we need to take an action.”

The council discusses the proposals Wednesday.

The Arizona law makes it a crime for illegal immigrants to be in the state and requires police to check immigration papers during investigation of a crime.
