COLUMBIA, S.C. — U.S. Senate hopeful Alvin Greene believes selling action figures of himself could put more South Carolinians back to work in a state with one of the nation’s highest unemployment rates.

The 32-year-old unemployed veteran won a surprise victory in South Carolina’s Democratic primary June 8. Greene said Wednesday the toy line idea shows he’s thinking outside the box and it would create jobs in a state where the unemployment rate was 11 percent in May.

Greene had no specific details about the toys and said he hadn’t been approached by any company.

He faces Republican Sen. Jim DeMint and Green Party candidate Tom Clements in the fall.

Greene’s action figure idea was first reported in the British newspaper The Guardian.
