CHANDIGARH - The Punjab government Thursday announced a new scheme for allotting plots to information technology (IT) units.

Under the scheme, small and medium plots will be developed at various locations and offered to the IT and related sector industries.

Punjab Infotech, a state government agency, has signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with leading private sector educational group, Rayat-Bahra Group of Institutes, for promoting a IT Park at Railmajra village near Ropar town, 50 km from here.

“The development of such land parcels for the IT and knowledge industry comes as a welcome step in Punjab where land is a very scarce resource. This would throw open doors of opportunity for quality private players in IT sector who have been hunting for space in the region,”

said Industries Minister Manoranjan Kalia.

Under the MoU, the Rayat-Bahra group will provide services of transportation, shopping complex, seminar halls, banking, medical, sports and recreational facilities to companies operating out of the IT Park.

The IT Park is not only in close proximity of the Rayat-Bahra group of educational institutions but also near to the site of the new Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) set up in Ropar town.

Kalia said a contiguous land of 12.11 acres has been acquired and is in possession of Punjab Infotech.
